Plasma treatment or plasma lift (using a D.A.S. plasma pen device)
What is a plasma treatment or plasma lift?
A plasma lift, also known as a plasma device treatment, uses an innovative plasma device and an innovative technique to tighten, enhance and lift your skin without cutting. This provides a refreshing and rejuvenating effect without plastic surgery or the use of injectables such as fillers or muscle relaxants.
How does a plasma device work?
By means of charged plasma energy, small pulses are locally applied to the skin via the plasma device. The skin fibres contract immediately as a result. This creates a lifting effect and stimulates deeper skin layers to boost collagen and elastinproduction.
Since a layer-by-layer technique is used without making contact with the skin, this treatment is an excellent alternative to various non-invasive cosmetic procedures.
Attention: This treatment can only be performed between October and April to prevent hyperpigmentation during the summer months.
What is a plasma treatment used for?
A plasma treatment is suitable for:
- A non-surgical correction for the upper and lower eyelids
- Skin firming and lifting of the face and neck
- Reduction of crow's feet
- Reduction of wrinkles around the mouth
- Improving scars caused by acne or chicken pox
- Removal of pigmentation or age spots
- Fading of stretch marks or other skin irregularities
Procedure
- As only an aesthetic doctor is allowed to carry out this type of treatment, you will need to book a consultation first to discuss your treatment plan, what your wishes are and whether you are eligible for this treatment. This takes about an hour. Once this has been drawn up, the first treatment session is scheduled at another time. After the consultation, you will also be given a numbing cream to apply before the next treatment(s).
- You have to apply the numbing cream at home to the area that will be treated, about 45 minutes before treatment. This allows the cream to take effect and allows us to start your treatment immediately. During your treatment session, the plasma device (in our case a D.A.S. plasma device) is held just above the skin without making contact. A small arc of charged plasma is created and touches the skin in a point-by-point fashion. During a session, small dots are repeatedly applied to very precise areas in the problem area.
- With each touch, the skin fibres contract, creating a lifting effect. Small scabs appear on the dots almost immediately.
- You can see some of the result immediately. In the following weeks, skin renewal and the production of collagen and elastin will take place.
- A treatment session takes approximately 15 to 60 minutes, depending on the treatment area.
Expectations and aftercare
- After the treatment, the skin is sensitive and may swell slightly in the treated area.
- Small scabs appear after the treatment, which will fall off after a week. Do not try to scratch these scabs as your skin will be recovering underneath.
- Only when the scabs have fallen off naturally you can moisturise your skin with a facial cream or lotion.
- Also, you may only apply mineral make-up (only as camouflage, no thick layers) when all scabs have fallen naturally from your skin. This can take up to a week.
- Risks of inflammationand long-term redness are minimal and the recovery process is faster than with treatments with other systems (e.g. CO2 laser).
- After the scabs have fallen off, it is best to apply a skin repair cream with SPF-50 daily during the first 2 months. Avoid direct exposure to the sun or a sunbed.
Possible complications
Complications are minimal, but you can expect the following issues or inconveniences:
- Swelling, especially if the eye area has been treated.
- Sensitivity in the treated area for a couple of weeks.
Do not hesitate to contact the doctor in case of infection.
How long does the result last?
- The result looks very natural.
- After one treatment, there is usually immediate visible result (depending on the indication).
- In the following weeks, the skin is renewed and collagen and elastin fibres are produced.
- The final result is visible after 1 to 3 months.
How many sessions do you need?
The treatments should always be carried out with an interval of 6 to 8 weeks. Depending on the condition of your skin, several treatments may follow for the best possible result. On average, the result lasts between 2 and 3 years. You can also choose to have an annual yearly maintenance treatment, so that the treated area always remains in optimal condition.
Who should not ondergo a plasma treatment?
This treatment uses electrical impulses. That is why it is not recommended to have a plasma treatment done in the following cases:
- During pregnancy and while breastfeeding
- When using isotretinoin (acne treatment)
- Pacemaker and metal implants present in the treatment area
- Epilepsy and cardiovascular problems
- In areas with permanent fillers
- While using medication which can cause a photosynthetic reaction (by order of a doctor)
- On sun tanned skin or after a sunbed treatment – you have to wait for at least 3 weeks
- During chemotherapy or radiation therapy
- Active inflammation of the treatment area (e.g; acne, herpes...)
- Not yet healed (skin) tumours or cancer
- Skin type 4/5/6
- Sensitivity to keloid formation
