Ways to Get Hair to Stop Growing on Your Upper Lip and Chin Area
Many transgender patients who transition from male to female find that hormone treatments can significantly reduce the amount of hair on their faces. However, despite these treatments, some hair often remains, particularly on the upper lip and chin area. Here are some of the best ways to remove that hair.
Shaving
By far, the most common method of facial hair removal is shaving. A sharp razor can take the hair away very cleanly, leaving a smooth, feminine appearance behind. Though it is effective, it does come with its downsides. For example, most patients find they must shave every day in order to maintain the smooth look, and those who do can develop razor rashes, no matter how careful they might be. Shaving can also lead to nicks and cuts, which are telltale signs that someone has shaved his or her face. Many transgender patients aim to get away from shaving as their main means of facial hair removal.
Waxing
Waxing is another common option when it comes to facial hair removal. It is more painful than shaving, but the trade-off is that the results last longer – often weeks instead of a day or two. Hot wax is applied to the area, then a removal strip is applied while the wax is still tacky. After giving it time to cool, the removal strip is pulled away from the face, taking the hair and the wax with it. Waxing can be done at home, though most prefer to have it done professionally. It costs quite a bit more than shaving, but it lasts longer and provides individuals with more freedom to enjoy themselves and their feminine appearance.
Depilatory Creams
Depilatory creams are another option, though many people find they do not work as well for facial hair, particularly if it is coarse. These creams contain chemicals designed to break down the keratin in the hair at the molecular level. By simply applying the cream, allowing it to sit for a few minutes, and then wiping it away, it is possible to remove much of the hair along with it. Again, these creams cannot break down coarser hair quite as well, so they may not be a good option for everyone. It truly depends on the individual.
Electrolysis
For those who find shaving, waxing, and depilatory creams to be tedious – and for those who find they do not provide adequate hair removal – electrolysis is another option. Professional electrolysis can drastically reduce the amount and number of hairs on your upper lip and chin area, and for many people, even permanently eradicate it. Electrolysis treatments can be costly, and for some, it can require numerous treatments to completely remove the hair. However, for many, it is well worth it, because once that hair is gone, they will never need to shave, wax, or use creams again.
Hair on your upper lip and chin is undoubtedly bothersome, but there are numerous ways to remove it. Shaving, waxing, depilatory creams, and even electrolysis are all viable options. Every individual is unique, and what works for one may not work for another. It is up to you to determine which hair removal option is best for your needs.
